Burn out// Paraffin wax Sculpture
Overworking myself is something I tend to be good at. I fill my time with too many tasks and events. To always make it work but in the end, I have no time left to take care of myself. This past summer I allowed myself to have a month of peace. Only taking on small jobs here and there and saying no to plans with friends. I had come to the realization that I didn’t know how to and didn’t enjoy being alone. I love chaos and energy. I have a lot of it to give so sometimes it’s just nice being surrounded by it too. After allowing myself the month to breathe and be still. I’ve learned to love alone time. Finding peace in the day and prioritizing myself.
When overworking yourself you lose more and more of who you truly are. A tint and haziness covers your true self. Think of a car when the wiper blades get old and are no longer capable of clearing off your windshield. It becomes more and more difficult to see out the window. Ultimately ending in a bad accident. If you don’t keep up and take care of things they can and will always get worse.
The photographed portion of this sculpture helps elevate the point of reaching the no go zone. Crossing the line into “fully overdoing it”. The grain in the images represents the foggy mindset you will feel when you are overdoing it. The illuminating but dull lighting is to show the feeling of reaching up into heaven. You're in the zone of never returning if you continue to head down this path.
There are 7 wax molded gas tanks. Each represents a day of the week.
